He my friends, was a rapper and a member of a Tribe Called Quest from Queens, New York.  He dropped verses on tracks such as Can I Kick it?, Check the Rhime, Electric Relaxation and many many other dope old school tracks. A Tribe called quest brought their Afrocentric, open-mindedness to Hip Hop with banging albums such as The Low End Theory that dropped in 1991 and Midnight Marauder that was released in 1993.

Today marks 1 year since Phife  passing due to complications on diabetes.

“I never let a statue tell me how nice I am”

– by Phife from their track called “Award Tour”

Ah wah dat mean?

According to google definition, statue means a carved or cast figure of a person or animal. At award shows what is normally awarded?

In my opinion, Phife is saying he doesn’t need people, awards, anything to tell him who he is and what he is worth.

In life, it should be the same thing. We shouldn’t let people, media, awards, even down to the things we own, define who we are as a person and what we are capable of. What if we don’t achieve a certain award? Does that mean we are wack? and this is your cue to give up? Nah boom. Never let things have you give up on what you truly like and enjoy, or determine who you are as a person.

I will sit here and post videos for days, but for now I’ll include 2 tracks  by A Tribe Called Quest that are my all time favorite.

This is where some of my social media names come from (McCallaAppleBum)…

RIP Phife Dawg.
